The Bon Accord Steam Engine Club (BASEC) was formed in 1975 with the objective of increasing and maintaining interest in all types of self-propelling steam engines and vehicles, other than those running on rails, and preserving a part of our history for future generations. It also supports any moves to preserve portable and stationary steam engines.

The first annual rally was held in 1967 with the purpose of trying to save Steam Vehicles from the scrap heap and bring collectors and enthusiasts together.

Since those early days the Club's annual rally has been held at various locations around Aberdeen but in 2004 joined forces with the National Trust to stage an all new event at Castle Fraser Aberdeenshire.

The event now called the Castle Fraser Steam and Vintage Fair and usually held on the last weekend of the month of June (this year 23/24th) is going from strength to strength. In 2006 it attracted a record 29 steam engines, over 100 tractors and about the same number of Stationery Engines.
